Week 2: Strings of Things

Today we played a language concentration game! We split into two groups, and within each group we went around saying words/phrases in different languages according to the given topics (food, useful phrases, clothing). Of course, it wasn't that simple... We also had to remember and repeat what the people before us said, so in the end we had these long strings of words.

Eventually, our game just turned into various conversations, and we spent the rest of the time talking, snacking, and watching funny videos.

Hopefully you'll remember some of the new words you learned today!
See you next week for pizza and movie night!

Scrabble Night & Outing

Oh man, I feel bad for you if you missed out on this week's meeting.  We all got together and played Scrabble (though a few of them resorted to Mah Jong) and a pretty good time.

Then someone mentioned they were hungry.  Pretty soon, everyone started saying they were hungry.  So we all decided to go to the UTC right across campus to eat dinner.  We went to Steelhead's for their $5 special on pizza and got 6 pizzas.  It was so good and so worth it for the price we paid (though I kinda forgot what the total was).  Best of all, Andy paid for all of us!!! (lol, j/k we paid him back).

We did have a blast, but not to say we didn't learn anything.  Preparing for Scrabble, we learned a few new english words that helped our game play.  Aa, ae, oe, and eau are appearently words.  We also learned a few new phrases in Mandarin if we won, lost, or gave praise to the other player.  So if you don't want to miss out on the fun, come to our meeting next time!

Winter Kick-off fun!

Thank you to those who made it to the meeting this week and don't worry for those of you who couldn't, there's always a chance every Tuesday for you to join the fun! This week, we had members from last quarter and new members this quarter come in to find out what the Language Exchange Program (LXP) is all about. We served pizza and refreshments, looked through the quarter activities, and play a few word games to practice our vocabulary in Chinese and English. It was very interesting because I learned not only a few words in Chinese, but also the meanings of a few English vocabularies as well.
If you have any questions or comments, please send a message on facebook to any of our cabinet members or e-mail us (e-mail on side bar on the right). If you have any suggestions on what you would like to do at our club meetings or ways to improve it, feel free to write a comment on our latest posts on this page or e-mail us. Thanks again and hope to see you all on Tuesday for our Mah Jong Night!
